iPod and ProTrack - Portable Digital Recorder
September 11th, 2008 by Inspector Gadget in iPod Gadgets |
The people at Alesis have come out with something a little different than their usual high-quality audio equipment; the Protrack, capable of turning your iPod into a portable digital recorder. This makes it great for on-the-spot recordings, such as at a lecture hall or concert.
Although it comes with Alesis’s integrated condenser microphone, you can also use the pair of combo XLR 1-inch inputs as external microphones, which come included with the unit. When plugged into an outlet, the Protrack can deliver 48V phantom power to your microphones, which is just what the recording enthusiast would love to have in their portable recording device.
Capable of making 16-bit audio recordings of 44.1kHz or 22kHz quality in stereo, Alesis has placed the microphones in XY configuration to allow for a better stereo image. Its specs say that it will work for five hours running off of four AAA batteries, and the AC power adapter is included with the Protrack.
You can use the Protrack with the Classic and 5th generation iPods, as well as the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Nano devices as well.
