Skarabeusz is the only European prototype of Martian rover, which takes part in the international competition called University Rover Challenge 2009, organized by The Mars Society. Competition takes place every year on a Utah desert.

The Skarabeusz project is an effect of integration of 5 different subprojects:  chassis (underbody frame, drive suspension, drive, wheels), manipulator (arm, gripper), electronic subsystems (vision system, radio communication, tracking of robot based on GPS), drive control and power supply. The main requirement of Martian rover competition – University Rover Challenge is to build a rover, capable to cover a long distances, especially in difficult terrain and execute tasks similar to those required during planet exploration, e.g. Mars.
